Many find riding a motorcycle not only enjoyable but also beneficial: easy parking, open air, good gas mileage, etc. However, the benefits do not come without risks. Even with a helmet, driving a motorcycle leaves little protection of the body. In addition, the drivers of other motor vehicles may fail to see the smaller road vehicle, sometimes resulting in a motorcycle accident. It is important for those living in Connecticut to be aware of motorcycles riding nearby to avoid serious injury or death.
Unfortunately for one family, the risks outweighed the benefits in June 2017 as a father of two lost his life in an accident. On the day of the accident, a 24-year-old hairdresser pulled out in front of the 43-year-old man as he was riding his motorcycle. The victim was transported to the hospital after the collision for treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The other motorist has recently been charged with manslaughter in connection with the accident. At the time of the accident, allegedly the hairdresser’s blood alcohol content was just above the legal limit. Her bond was reduced at her recent arraignment hearing from $100,000 to house arrest.
It is unfortunate that a hobby such as motorcycle riding can result in death because of a negligent driver. Those in Connecticut who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to a motorcycle accident may have the right to legal recourse if there is evidence suggesting that another party’s negligence played a role in the incident.
