Don’t Get Scammed By People “Calling From The IRS”
Don’t get scammed by people who call and threaten to take your Social Security payments. They tell you they are from IRS, and are collecting your tax debts. These people are frauds, trying to steal your money.
IRS always writes first. They never “just call” and they never demand that you do anything “immediately.”
When IRS sends your tax debt to a private debt collector, you get TWO letters: one from IRS and one from the approved, private debt collector, which is sanctioned by IRS. These letters contain identifying information and a “taxpayer authentication number” so you can MAKE SURE they are legitimate. NEVER just send money to someone who “calls you from the IRS”. NEVER provide your Social Security number, bank account number or password.
