Trailer truck accident shuts down I-95 for over an hour

On Behalf of | Mar 23, 2017 | Firm News, Truck Accidents

A serious accident required the services of multiple first responder departments in the early morning hours of a recent Tuesday. The crash involved three commercial trucks, as well as six additional vehicles. As with so many trailer truck accident sites, the area was shut down while emergency teams worked to assess and assist at the Connecticut scene. At least two people were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.

Emergency responders believe that crash took place just before a period of heavy snowfall. The vehicles were traveling northbound on I-95 when a collision took place between a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. The car struck the truck from the rear, and the front portion of the vehicle was trapped under the rear portion of the truck.

In order to extricate the driver, 17 firefighters and specialized equipment were required. A series of air bags and pneumatic struts were used to lift the trailer off of the vehicle, while a grip-hoist was used to pull the car out from underneath the tractor trailer. The driver had to be removed from the car using hydraulic cutting devices.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries suffered in the accident. In addition, the driver of another tractor trailer was injured in the incident, and required medical treatment. There is no word on the condition of those two individuals, or their prognosis for recovery.

This trailer truck accident remains under investigation by Connecticut authorities. As of the time of this report, no charges have been filed, and there is no indication of the cause of the accident. As the investigation moves forward, police may be able to determine which party was at fault in the matter. That finding could lead to criminal charges, and/or to personal injury lawsuits on behalf of those injured in the early morning crash.
