On Behalf of | Nov 24, 2015 | Auto-Pedestrian Accidents, Firm News

Police in Connecticut are investigating a fatal accident that occurred recently in Meriden. A pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle reportedly died at the scene of the crash. The driver believed responsible was also injured.

According to a recent report, a 68-year-old Meriden resident, had just picked up a pizza and was walking back to his car when he was hit by an automobile. Sadly, he died before he could be transported for medical treatment. The driver thought responsible for the crash was taken to a hospital due to injuries sustained as a result of the windshield shattering.

This pedestrian accident occurred the evening of Nov. 17. Police have yet to release any further information about this incident. At this time, it is unknown if any charges have been filed or are pending against the driver.

Connecticut residents have certainly seen their share of pedestrian accidents over the years. Sadly, many of them have had similar fatal outcomes. A pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle or — in cases of fatality — surviving family members may seek damages for any losses resulting from such an incident. Legal claims that are filed and litigated successfully in civil court may be granted economic and non-economic damages. In this particular case, if negligence is proved, the victim’s family members may be awarded funds that can help them to cover their loved one’s funeral expenses, allow them to recoup any lost wages and benefits — both current and future — and receive further compensation for any other damages deemed recoverable in accordance with applicable state laws.
