Driver sought in Connecticut hit-and-run accident

On Behalf of | Aug 13, 2014 | Auto-Pedestrian Accidents, Firm News

Bridgeport police were notified of an accident involving a white or light colored Acura Integra and a 22-year-old male pedestrian at the intersection of Park Avenue and Vine Street in the early morning hours of Aug. 9. Witnesses say that the driver of the car that was going northbound accelerated while approaching the intersection, hit the pedestrian and then took off after initially braking.

The pedestrian was sent to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition; he died from his injuries on Aug. 12. Police say that they are still investigating the accident and are looking for the driver of the car that fled the scene. As of the report, there was no mention of any suspects in the case, and local police are asking for anyone with information about the case to contact them.

When a vehicle collides with another vehicle or a pedestrian, the driver of that vehicle is supposed to stop, make sure that the other person or people involved are okay and ask for help. Failure to do so could lead to criminal charges that may be used as evidence against the driver in a personal injury case or wrongful death claim.

An attorney may be able to reach a financial settlement in a pedestrian accident case without the injured party having to go to trial. This may allow an injured person to focus on his or her recovery as opposed to the payment of medical bills. Similarly, an attorney may help family members of a person killed in an accident file for compensation against the driver.
