Head-on crash in Connecticut leaves 2 injured

On Behalf of | Jul 3, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Authorities reported that a two-vehicle accident in Plainfield left two individuals with injuries. Police said they are investigating the June 29 incident, which reportedly occurred on Route 14A at approximately 1:50 a.m.

Allegedly, a 51-year-old man was driving a Dodge pickup truck west on Route 14A when a 22-year-old woman crossed into his lane with her eastbound vehicle, causing a head-on collision. Emergency responders took the 51-year-old man to Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of minor injuries. The 22-year-old woman also suffered minor injuries requiring hospitalization.

As a simple matter of physics, head-on collisions are often destructive and always dangerous. It is rare for motorists to escape this type of accident without injury. Furthermore, not all accident-related injuries reveal themselves in full immediately following the crash. Sometimes, the extent of the injuries does not become manifest until days or weeks later.

After head-on collisions like this one, constructing a clear picture of liability may be difficult. However, accident victims who wish to pursue a personal injury claim must prove to a civil court that another party should be held liable for the accident. To fulfill this requirement, a victim’s personal injury lawyer may employ the results of a completed accident investigation by police, crash reconstruction reports, eyewitness accounts and other sources that substantiate the victim’s case. If successful, accident victims might receive financial compensation for the damages they suffered in connection with the crash.

These damages may include but are not limited to hospital bills, medical expenses, the costs associated with rehabilitation and therapy, vehicular repairs and even lost wages if the victim’s injuries prove to be disabling. Claimants in a personal injury lawsuit must also demonstrate the specific damages they suffered in order to win compensation.
