Man killed in 2-vehicle accident in New Jersey

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents, Firm News

Police say that a man was killed in an accident on Route 34 in Orange on June 16. According to law enforcement, the man was driving his car southbound on Dogburn Avenue when he was struck by a van going west on Derby Avenue at about 8 a.m.

The 60-year-old man driving the car was pronounced dead by a first responder. Sources indicate that he needed to be extracted from his vehicle by emergency personnel. An autopsy on the man was scheduled to be performed by the state medical examiner’s office. The 41-year-old woman who was driving the van was not seriously injured in the accident. She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The road was closed for almost five hours after the crash. It is not clear who may have been at fault or if any citations would be issued. No cause of the crash was given, and police say that the accident is still under investigation.

If a person is injured in a motor vehicle accident, that person may be able to sue the motorist who caused the crash. The compensation that may be awarded from a personal injury claim could help a victim recover their medical treatment, rehabilitation and property damage expenses. Should a crash victim pass away from his or her injuries, the family of the victim may also file a claim against the driver responsible for the fatal accident. For those who have suffered similar losses, a personal injury attorney could review accident reports and witness accounts in order to establish the facts of a particular case.
