Connecticut man suffers serious injuries in pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | Jun 25, 2014 | Auto-Pedestrian Accidents, Firm News

A Bridgeport auto accident involving a minivan and a pickup truck injured a pedestrian, according to reports. The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. June 19 at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Barnum Avenue. According to reports, a Ford pickup being driven by a 73-year-old Florida man and a Nissan minivan being driven by a 68-year-old Bridgeport man collided at the intersection. The impact forced the minivan to leave the road, cross over an adjacent sidewalk and strike a building.

As the minivan was leaving the road, it struck a 47-year-old Bridgeport man walking on an adjacent sidewalk. The pedestrian was seriously injured and had to be extricated from under the vehicle by first responders. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital but was later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital where his condition is said to be unknown. Police say that the man who was driving the Nissan was complaining of head, neck and back pain.

The accident is being investigated, and the available report did not detail why the crash occurred. However, if an investigation is able to determine that one of the drivers is at fault, the other individuals who were affected by the crash might be able to pursue compensation for losses.

A pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle often suffers serious injuries. A victim may be required to pay for expensive medical treatment and rehabilitation, and that person might be unable to work while in recovery, resulting in a loss of income. A person injured in a pedestrian accident can sometimes file a personal injury claim and seek compensation for their losses, especially if it can be shown that the accident resulted from negligence. When a pedestrian accident results in death, the victim’s family may want to consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
