3-vehicle crash in Connecticut injures 6

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

A May 31 accident that involved three vehicles, including a U.S. Postal Service truck, left six people with injuries, according to the East Hampton Police Department. Police said the incident took place near the intersection of Route 196 and Carriage Drive.

The mail truck was traveling in the southbound lanes of Route 196 when it was rear-ended by a Ford pickup truck, police said. The force of the striking pickup reportedly pushed the postal truck into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by an oncoming car. All three vehicles sustained damage as a result of the incident.

Emergency medical crews transported five people involved in the crash to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries, authorities said. The driver of the postal truck had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to fire officials.

The severity of the injuries suffered in this wreck was not immediately clear. However, officials did state that the mail truck driver was transported to a hospital in a LifeStar helicopter, which may indicate that the driver suffered a serious injury. Authorities reportedly deployed an accident reconstruction team to the accident scene. It was not immediately clear if police plan to file charges or issue citations in connection with the incident.

If the mail truck driver did in fact suffer serious injuries, the corresponding medical expenses may accrue rapidly. In order to receive financial compensation for those damages, the postal driver may pursue a personal injury claim against the party responsible for the accident. In that event, retaining an attorney would be essential. The attorney may adopt information from the accident reconstruction team’s report to bolster the mail truck driver’s claim against the party responsible for the accident.
