A motorcyclist was killed in a fatal accident in Connecticut

On Behalf of | May 17, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents, Firm News

Accidents that occur between motorcycles and regular passenger vehicles can often produce severe physical consequences for the motorcycle driver. While many enjoy the sense of freedom gained by driving a motorcycle, these vehicles also offer far less protection than that of a regular passenger automobile. This lack of protection could turn what might have been a mild or moderate incident into a fatal accident for Connecticut motorcyclists.

A recent accident in North Branford, between a motorcycle and a passenger car, resulted in the untimely death of the motorcyclist. The mid-morning accident occurred earlier this month on Foxon Road, after the car struck the motorcycle from behind while both vehicles were traveling in westbound lanes. The motorcycle driver evidently suffered severe injuries as a result. He was treated by the local fire department at the scene before being transported to a hospital for further care. Sadly, despite medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

No other injuries were reported in this case. The regional Accident Recovery Team is still investigating the cause of the crash. Local police are asking any witnesses to the collision to please come forward. At this time, police have not indicated if charges will be filed in this case.

A fatal accident will undoubtedly leave surviving family members seeking answers, while at the same time grieving their loss. In this case, the victim’s family retains the right to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of their loved one. If the driver suspected of being responsible for the crash is found liable for the motorcyclist’s death, a civil court in Connecticut could award a monetary judgement to be paid to the victim’s family, if their claim is successfully litigated.
