Property damage and personal injuries have once again been caused by a Connecticut drunk driver. The under-age drinker was stopped at a DUI checkpoint during the holiday weekend when the accident occurred. This recent incident emphasizes the dangers of driving under the influence. Unfortunately, holiday celebrations can become tragic when a drunk driver chooses to operate a motor vehicle instead of using a designated driver.
A Branford policeman was working a DUI checkpoint on Labor Day when a 20-year old Branford resident was stopped. After the driver backed her vehicle into the police car, she was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, the drunk driver was arrested and posted bail. She will appear in court later this month.
The injured policeman was taken to a nearby hospital. He was treated and released for back injuries. The police sergeant who was trying to make the streets safer for the residents of Connecticut from drivers under the influence of alcohol was injured by one of those drunk drivers. The chief of police reminded citizens of the need for policemen to continue their efforts to remove the threat of drunk drivers.
While the injuries inflicted in this accident were not life threatening, financial compensation may still be appropriate to the victim. Property damage, pain and suffering and lost wages are some of the areas where compensation may be available. A victim of a drunk driver in Connecticut has avenues to seek legal recourse when he or she has been harmed by the negligent actions of another.
