New Haven business damaged by runaway vehicle

On Behalf of | Jul 30, 2013 | Car Accidents, Firm News

A car accident in New Haven, Connecticut left a bagel store wondering just how, exactly, could a driver cause such a ridiculous crash.

The accident occurred in the afternoon about a week and a half ago. A vehicle was driving down the street when suddenly the driver lost control of it. Why the driver lost control is still unclear — but the police are investigating the matter. The vehicle plowed right into the front door of a bagel store, causing some damage to the building, but sparing the employees and customers inside. No one was hurt, though the driver was hospitalized as a precautionary measure.

There are a couple of things to take away from this story, and the first is the investigation into a car accident. The investigation is very important, but it can take some time for the police to reach a conclusion on the matter — even in a seemingly straightforward accident like this one, where a single car crashed into a building.

There are a number of factors to consider though. Was the driver distracted or intoxicated? Did the car malfunction in some way? Was another vehicle at fault for causing the wrecked vehicle to plow into the building? Each of these elements, plus myriad other factors, need to be fully investigated by officials so they have complete answers and, thus, can issue a definitive ruling on the accident at hand.

The other thing to take away from this story is that property damage can be recouped in a civil lawsuit. The victims of the wreck could use the driver’s negligence to earn compensation for their damaged vehicle, building or other piece of property.
