Settlement reached in motorcycle accident from 2015

When an individual is injured in a serious crash, the road to justice and fair compensation can take some time. It is frustrating to wait as a personal injury case makes its way through the courts, but a positive outcome is often worth that wait. Such is the case for a Connecticut man who recently agreed to a significant settlement after a 2015 motorcycle accident left him seriously injured.

The case centered on an accident that took place in May 2015. The 54-year-old man was riding his motorcycle when a pickup truck struck him. The truck driver was later accused of failing to yield the right-of-way, failure to lookout for other vehicles and failure to signal when making a turn.

When police arrived at the scene, four officers were wearing body cameras. Those cameras picked up footage of the motorcyclist writhing in pain on the ground, in clear signs of distress. The cameras also recorded the man being loaded into an ambulance prior to being rushed off to seek emergency medical treatment. He would eventually require multiple surgeries on his ankle, with total medical bills exceeding $100,000. He is also partly disabled due to the accident.

In reaching the settlement, the body camera footage was an important factor. In addition, the driver of the pickup truck had been involved in a similar accident the year prior, striking and injuring a bicyclist. The personal injury lawsuit in this case resulted in a settlement of $1.5 million, which will be paid by the driver’s insurance company. While the case took nearly two years to be resolved, the Connecticut man injured in the motorcycle accident is likely relieved to have a positive outcome, and to have the chance to move on with his life.
