Driver allegedly under the influence hits pedestrian

On Behalf of | Dec 28, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accidents, Firm News

A teenager in Connecticut died on Christmas night after being struck by a vehicle. The driver believed responsible for the incident was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Charges have been filed in this case.

According to a local report, the teen — an 18-year-old male — was walking to an event that he was planning on attending when he was struck by the car. This incident occurred on Route 69 in Bethany. It is unknown if the victim died at the scene of the crash or if he was transported to a medical facility for treatment before succumbing to his injuries.

The individual deemed responsible for this incident — a 60-year-old woman — was not injured in the wreck. According to police, she was driving northbound and failed to remain in her lane, causing her to hit the young man. She has been charged with a DUI. Bail was set in her case at $5,000, which was paid and she was released. The accused is expected to appear in court in mid-January.

Accidents caused by drivers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol are particularly heart-wrenching as such incidents are highly preventable. In this particular case, the victim’s family members may pursue legal actions against the woman believed responsible for his death. By filing wrongful death claims in a Connecticut civil court, loved ones may seek compensation for the numerous losses that they may encounter as a result of such events. While this kind of case can be difficult to get through, understandably, financial compensation can be achieved through successful litigation which can assist surviving family members as they try to move forward, by relieving any monetary concerns and allowing them to focus on grieving their loss.
