Alleged drunk driver arrested for a fatal accident in Connecticut

On Behalf of | May 27, 2014 | Drunk Driving Accidents, Firm News

While the consumption of alcohol may be considered a social norm in Connecticut and across the country, accidents caused by those who chose to drink and drive are devastating to families. It is sad but true that an accident caused by an alleged drunk driver often has fatal results. Families of victims who are killed in these types of collisions are left, not only trying to cope with the enormous loss, but seeking justice on behalf of their loved ones.

In March, a tragic accident in West Hartford claimed the life of a young man. The 32-year-old male was driving to work when his car was struck by another vehicle head-on. While little information is known about him, it was reported that he was a local paramedic with American Medical Response.

The other driver, a 33-year-old female, was recently arrested and is facing several charges for her apparent role in the crash, including manslaughter and DUI. Police reported that this individual had a blood-alcohol level well above the legal limit and that she was speeding at the time of the collision. She has been released on bond and is waiting for her upcoming court date.

Fatal car accidents can quite literally leave a family in ruins, emotionally and financially. The feelings of grief and despair may simply feel too overwhelming to bear. On top of the emotional ravages, medical expenses, funeral expenses and the loss of current and future income caused by the death of a loved one at the hands of an alleged drunk driver can also cause financial burdens. The family of this victim retains the right to pursue a wrongful death claim on his behalf. If the individual believed to be responsible for the crash is found liable, a Connecticut court could grant this victim’s family a monetary award for their loss, which may assist in recouping any financial losses they have sustained from the accident.
