On these recent wintry nights, it is more important than ever to be a cautious driver. The slick roads combined with reduced visibility can mean extremely dangerous conditions. Even if one is obeying hard laws of the road, such as driving the speed limit and stopping at a stop sign, if that individual is not driving safely for conditions, their behavior could be considered negligent by both the public and the law. A negligent driver or distracted driver has the capacity to seriously injure others, which can sometimes even result in fatality.
A fatal car accident unfortunately recently occurred in Milford, Connecticut on Saturday, December 15. At about 10 pm, a 57-year-old woman was traveling on Osborne Street, going Southbound. She was driving a 1999 Nissan. She approached an intersection with a stop sign. The woman apparently stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded across the intersection. Just at this moment, a motorcyclist, traveling on the perpendicular road crossed into the intersection. The woman’s vehicle impacted with the motorcycle.
The cyclist suffered serious injuries from the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, he did not survive the incident. Police are currently investigating the details of the accident.
The deep sadness this cyclist’s loved ones are currently experiencing is unimaginable. If the female driver is found to have been negligent in the incident, the cyclist’s loved ones may be entitled to bring a claim against the woman in Connecticut civil court. In Connecticut, loved ones are entitled to obtain monetary compensation for medical expenses and pain and suffering. This sort of lawsuit is not only important in that it helps those harmed by any negligent behavior move on with their lives without unneeded financial struggle, but they also serve as a deterrent to future negligent behavior.
