1 killed, 1 injured in West Haven motorcycle accident

On Behalf of | Apr 11, 2017 | Firm News, motorcycle accidents

When a Connecticut driver gets behind the wheel of a vehicle or begins to operate a motorcycle, he or she assumes a large number of responsibilities. Taking to the open road involves more than just getting from point A to point B; drivers must also take care to maintain safe road conditions for others with whom they share the road. That is also true in regard to passengers, as evidenced in a recent motorcycle accident that took the life of one person and injured another.

The accident remains under investigation, but police have released the identity of the man who was operating the motorcycle at the time of the crash. A 51-year-old resident of West Haven, the man was carrying a passenger on the bike as he neared the intersection of Campbell Avenue and Blohm Street. At that point, the driver collided with an enclosed vehicle.

No information has been released concerning any injuries suffered by the occupants of the car, but the man who was operating the motorcycle lost his life in the collision. His passenger, an unidentified female, was seriously injured in the crash, and is receiving medical care. As of the time of this report, there is no word of criminal charges in the matter, although the investigation has not yet been completed.

In cases such as this, the first step lies in determining the series of events that led to the motorcycle accident. Once Connecticut police are able to determine who was at fault in the matter, decisions can be made on how to proceed. If the driver of the car was at fault for the crash, then the family of the man who lost his life has a right to pursue a wrongful death suit, and the woman who suffered injuries can move forward with a personal injury case. However, if the operator of the motorcycle was to blame for the collision, then the woman who was injured can pursue a suit against the man’s estate, should she decide to do so.
