Police in Connecticut are in the process of investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred in Waterbury. According to reports, the driver believed responsible for the crash was found to have drugs on his person. It is still unknown if the drugs contributed to this fatal accident, as toxicology reports are still pending.
On Wednesday, April 27, two vehicles collided at a curve on a local road. Both drivers — a 28-year-old male and a 59-year-old female — were killed in the crash. Police believe that the male driver crossed the double yellow line and struck the woman’s car.
According to the latest report, speed is thought to have been the major contributing factor in this crash. However, during an investigation at the scene, police found two bags of cocaine on the male driver’s body. Authorities are still trying to determine if that factored into the crash in any way. It is unclear as to how long it will take for toxicology tests to be completed.
This was truly a tragic event, one that has undoubtedly left the victim’s surviving family members dealing with a whirlwind of emotions and financial challenges. Even though the driver deemed responsible for this fatal accident did not survive, the victim’s family may still have legal recourse. Civil claims may be filed against the estate of the party believed responsible in a Connecticut court. In taking such action, if successful, financial relief may be achieved which could help in covering funeral expenses and other economic losses, as well as provide for any recoverable non-economic damages as well.
