A Connecticut man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a multi-vehicle wreck and pedestrian accident. This incident reportedly occurred on Feb. 5, in Meriden. As a result of the pedestrian accident, the victim sustained numerous injuries, including a severed leg.

According to reports, two vehicles — an SUV and a minivan — had stopped, waiting to make a left-hand turn into a driveway. A passenger — a 35-year-old male — got out of the SUV, which was in front of the van, and stood between the vehicles as he waited for traffic to clear so he could cross the street. While the vehicles and the pedestrian were waiting, the minivan was struck from behind by a pickup truck, trapping the pedestrian between the van and SUV and severing his leg.

Authorities were promptly notified. First responders put a tourniquet on the victim’s leg before sending him off to the hospital. Along with a severed leg, he is said to have suffered other unspecified injuries. His current condition is unknown. It is not believed that anyone else was harmed in the crash.

Police arrested the driver of the pickup — a 32-year-old male. They believe that he was impaired at the time of the crash. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving and second-degree assault with an automobile. Bond has been set in his case at $20,000.

This pedestrian accident has resulted in the victim experiencing significant losses, and at this point, his prognosis is unknown. His life has been forever changed as a result of this wreck, and, as such, he may be entitled to seek compensation for the numerous damages he has sustained. A personal injury claim, filed and successfully litigated in a Connecticut civil court, could help this young man achieve financial relief for any and all economic and non-economic damages, which could certainly prove helpful as he works to rebuild his life after this terrible event.
