Connecticut New Year’s accident stats; hundreds reported

On Behalf of | Jan 8, 2013 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Connecticut residents likely spent the last few weeks traveling to be with family, eating delicious meals and delivering gifts to loved ones. The holiday season is always an exciting and busy time. As this holiday wraps up, the state of Connecticut has also tallied the numbers of accidents that occurred during the New Year’s holiday time frame. Unfortunately, the total number of road related incidents, including crashes, arrests, citations and tickets issued hit in the hundreds.

For the state of Connecticut, the New Year’s season specifically ran from Dec. 29 to the end of the day Tuesday, Jan. 1. During this time period, police say more than 400 car accidents occurred, at least one of them fatal. There is no doubt that a combination of high numbers of travelers, alcohol-related festivities and snowy weather contributed to this large incident count.

A Farmington man was tragically killed in a car accident Dec. 29 in wintry weather conditions. In addition to this incident, another 418 car accidents occurred over the New Year’s holiday. Forty-one people were injured. An additional 44 individuals were arrested under suspicion of drinking and driving. Further, more than 570 citations were issued for speeding.

Being injured by a negligent driver is a horrible occurrence. Thankfully, however, Connecticut permits injured individuals to seek to recover monetary compensation from such negligence in civil court. Even if the harmed person is found to be partially at fault for the incident that caused the injuries, he or she may still be able to recover for the portion of fault attributed to the other driver.

An accident is never welcome. When a negligent driver is involved, which is no doubt the case for countless of crashes that occur in Connecticut, injured victims should seek out counsel to explore their options for obtaining compensation.
