Norwalk police officers have arrested a man whom they believe was under the influence when he struck three pedestrians in Connecticut. The alleged hit-and-run occurred on Oct. 24 around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities state that after the man struck the pedestrians, he got out of his car and ran away from the scene on foot. Two of the pedestrians were injured, and one died after he was taken to the hospital.

Police located and arrested the 33-year-old man whom they believe was responsible for the accident. He was charged with multiple crimes, including second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, evading responsibility for an accident resulting in death, evading resulting in property damage and driving without a driver’s license. He is currently being held on a $750,000 bond. Authorities continued to investigate one day after the accident.

State law mandates that anyone who is involved in an automobile accident that causes injury stay at the scene of the accident until help arrives. People who are victims of hit-and-run accidents may be able to successfully collect damages from the liable driver by filing a civil lawsuit. In addition to the criminal penalties people face when they try to evade responsibility for injuring others, they may also face civil liability to the victims. Victims may wish to seek the help of a personal injury attorney who can help them recover restitution for damages such as hospital expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
