Charges follow after fatal accident in racing challenge

Many people like fast cars. There are movies, NASCAR races and car shows to feed the need for speed in individuals. However, speeding on the roadway not only could lead to a fine but could also lead to a fatal accident. Tragically, three people in Connecticut lost their lives last year in an accident blamed on speeding.

A young man has been charged recently with manslaughter for the deaths of three people in a crash one year ago. According to reports, two drivers were arguing about whose car was faster. The pair then agreed to settle the argument with a race.

Police say the vehicles were going over 85 mph when they entered a curve. One of the drivers lost control of the car and collided with a pole. This resulted in a fiery crash, leaving the three passengers in the vehicle dead. In addition to manslaughter charges, the driver has also been charged with reckless endangerment.

It can be difficult coping with the loss of a loved one unexpectedly. When a fatal accident is caused by a negligent driver, it could make it even more difficult to handle as the accident could have potentially been avoided. Though one cannot undo the act of another, a deceased victim's surviving family may be able to take action by filing a wrongful death claim. With a successfully litigated claim, any monetary damages awarded can help relieve the potential financial burden these tragedies typically engender. To consider filing a wrongful death claim, a confidential consultation with a Connecticut personal injury attorney is typically the best place to start.
