Man killed in snowplow pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | Mar 30, 2017 | Firm News, Pedestrian Accidents

A Connecticut family is in the early stages of grieving the loss of a loved one after a tragic accident. According to early reports, the accident took place on a recent Tuesday afternoon in East Hartford. Because the man was outside of his vehicle and on foot at the time of the incident, it is being considered a pedestrian accident.

According to reports, an 82-year-old man was cleaning snow from his vehicle in the parking lot of Willow Arms Apartments on Main Street. A snowplow truck was also in the parking lot at the same time. It appears that the 47-year-old man who was driving the snowplow truck was attempting to back up in the lot when he struck the older gentleman.

Although emergency responders rush the man to a nearby hospital, he was unable to survive injuries suffered during the incident. The driver who struck and killed the man is a private snowplow contractor. Police report that he is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

As the investigation continues, Connecticut police will try to determine the circumstances that led to this fatal pedestrian accident. If it appears that the driver of the snowplow truck was careless or reckless in his operation of that vehicle, criminal charges could result. Separately, the family of the man who was killed in the incident has the right to pursue a wrongful death charges against the snowplow operator. While accidents do happen, drivers always have an obligation to act in a manner that preserves the safety of those around them.
