Fatal accident results in recent criminal charges

When a family is faced with a sudden and tragic loss at the hands of a careless driver, the wait for justice can seem indefinite. Investigating these types of cases can take many months, and families are often left feeling hopeless as they wait for a legal resolution to the matter. An example is found in a Connecticut case in which a fatal accident took the life of a Norwich man, with criminal charges finally being issued against the driver.

The fatal accident took place on Interstate 95 nearly one year ago. The crash was the result of a driver who was traveling in the wrong direction on the interstate. The head-on collision resulted in serious injuries to both drivers, although the man whom police believe caused the accident was able to survive his injuries. Both men were in their early 20s at the time of the accident.

The surviving driver was recently charged with multiple crimes, including reckless endangerment, second-degree manslaughter, driving while under the influence and driving the wrong way. He was released on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court for arraignment in the coming days. It is unclear how he will respond to these serious charges.

For the family of the Connecticut man who lost his life in this tragic fatal accident, news of these criminal charges may come as a relief. The family retains the right to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, although they may wait to learn how the criminal case unfolds before taking such a step. There are no words that can adequately express the dismay and heartbreak associated with their loss, but news that the criminal case is prepared to move forward could provide a degree of relief in their suffering.
