Fatal accident was the result of wrong way highway driving

Few things are more frightening to Connecticut drivers than encountering a wrong-way driver on a dark stretch of road. That was the exact scenario that one driver faced on a recent night close to New Haven. The result was a fatal accident that claimed the lives of both drivers. The story serves as a warning to all drivers of the increased hazards that come with driving in the early morning hours.

According to police who responded to the scene of the accident, a 27-year-old woman was driving in a northbound direction in the southbound lanes of travel on Route 15. A 53-year-old woman was traveling southbound when she encountered the other automobile. The resulting collision sent both women to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither woman was able to survive those injuries.

Police are still investigating the accident, which took place in the early morning hours of a recent Monday. They are working to determine why the younger woman was driving in the wrong direction on Route 15. They are asking the community for assistance, and urging anyone with information about the accident to contact the Connecticut State Police.

In cases in which a fatal accident in Connecticut involves a wrong way driver, there can be little doubt as to which party was at fault in the matter. In this case, the wrong way driver also lost her life in the incident. However, the family of the other woman who died in the crash still has the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver's estate. That can make a world of difference in terms of covering final expenses and assisting the woman's family with replacing lost income or other financial losses.
