Connecticut hit and run accidents: Were speeding drivers racing?

Vehicle accidents can have the potential to cause devastating results. Two people are in the hospital following a recent crash in Connecticut. There is an ongoing investigation, as one of the two cars involved fled the scene. Even though the cause of this particular accident hasn't been determined, the victims of hit and run accidents may benefit from a diligent review of the facts and circumstances in conjunction with Connecticut state laws.

The two cars involved in this accident were traveling at high rates of speed. Authorities have hypothesized that the drivers might have been racing. The end result, however, was one car ended up trapped under a gas tanker and eventually caught fire. The other driver sped off, leaving strangers to pull the two occupants of the car from it before they were even more seriously harmed.

A personal injury claim can be filed by a victim in civil court anytime there is evidence suggesting that an injury resulted from the actions of a negligent or reckless driver. Money, of course, doesn't make up for the pain and suffering experience by those injured. However, monetary relief awarded from a successfully litigated lawsuit can help to cover rehabilitation costs, lost wages and medical expenses incurred from an accident.

As the accident investigation moves forward, the seriously injured passenger likely has the right to pursue a personal injury claim against one or both drivers. Connecticut hit and run accidents have an additional dynamic, as the driver of the fleeing vehicle must be located before any claim can proceed against that party. Fortunately, law enforcement authorities are often successful in apprehending drivers that leave the scene of a crash. If a personal injury lawsuit is filed against both drivers, it will be the responsibility of a civil court to determine liability issues and, once established, claims for financial damages that accrued as a result of the tragedy.
